TODAY’S SCRIPTURE Psalm 33:6-9
Artists are fascinating. Artists have an incredible talent to create expressions of beauty and emotion. Sometimes their art gives visual life to some kind of concept, and an artist’s creation can be a great gift to others when it is shared. Many have been mesmerized by Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, entranced by Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, and fascinated by Edvard Munch’s The Scream. Whatever the heart of the artist desires to create can benefit those who experience it.
God is the ultimate artist. And His creative heart brings forth things that are good and beautiful. For example, in Psalm 33 we read, “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; He puts the deeps in storehouses. …For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm.”
God is an incredible artist, and His Word is His brush. With it, He paints vivid scenes of comforting control over all things and gives new life within the canvas of His creation. We could say that God’s Words are His powerful, authoritative self-expression. It seems that God does nothing without using His Words. We seem to never find the Artist without His brush.
When God the artist speaks His Word “by the breath of His mouth,” His created canvas is obligated to obey. The whole Bible is a story of God’s speaking and His creation responding in one way or another. Throughout history, the Artist gives self-expression by sending His Word over and over. In those words, God is revealing His heart.
Never take God’s Words for granted. They have the power to create beautiful things. They are His self-expression. If we will hear them, they can create beauty in our own lives.
Today, I will…meditate on the beautiful things brought forth by the breath of God’s mouth and determine to allow God’s powerful Word to work its great power for my benefit.
